Lane Splitting - Please Don't Do It

Posted on 13:21 by Unknown
When I'm driving in heavy traffic, I have to watch for up to 8 other vehicles, constantly - count them.

  • 3 in front of me - 1 in each lane to my left and right, and 1 directly in front of me in my lane.
  • 2 beside me - one each to my left and my right.
  • To a lesser degree - 3 behind me - 1 in each lane to my left and right, and 1 directly behind me in my lane.

I'm responsible for staying in my lane - and this includes each of the inches between the sides of my car, and the painted lines. I'm responsible for preventing my vehicle from coming into contact with any one of the other 8 vehicles enumerated above. When I am using the roadway, all of that real estate (small though it be) is there to separate me from the 8 vehicles.

The real estate covered by the painted line includes no virtual secret lane for smaller vehicles.

If your smaller vehicle is insufficiently designed as to make you, or its mechanisms, uncomfortable, or perform badly, when stuck in slow traffic, I sympathise. My car runs much better at 60 mph (and still better at higher speeds), but when I'm in traffic, I have to reduce my movement to the speed of the traffic.

The traffic lanes, identified as they are by painted lines, are NOT designed so you can make a virtual lane for yourself. Lane splitting not declared illegal or not, the lane is my responsibility, and my temporary property, when I'm in it.

Stay away from the side of my car. Please.

Chucks Musings NewsFeeds

Posted on 20:34 by Unknown
This blog is Chuck's Musings. This post is Chuck's Musings NewsFeeds, and you are looking at the blog itself. What you see is a lot easier for you to read, than for computers to do so. There's another copy of your blog, that's designed for computers to read.

The other copy is called the blog (site) feed. The site feed is read by a newsfeed reader. If you would like to be informed, automatically, when this site (or any of millions of other sites on the Internet) is updated with new and interesting articles, you get a newsfeed reader, and subscribe to one or more feeds.

You have several choices, for newsfeed readers. Here are a few examples.
  • Browser based: Bloglines, Google Reader, Sage (for FireFox)
  • Cross platform: BottomFeeder
  • Microsoft Windows: FeedDemon, NewsGator
  • Mac OS X: NetNewsWire

You have several feed choices, for Chuck's Musings. You can take any of these feed URLs, and subscribe using any of the above (or numerous other) newsfeed readers.
